An Institute for Classical Education

Introduction to English Grammar, Rhetoric, and the Western (and American) Tradition

This course begins with a study of a text called Rhetorical Grammar: Grammatical Choices, Rhetorical Effects by Martha Kolln, which teaches English grammar and a basic form of rhetoric. It proceeds to Classical Rhetoric for the Modern Student by Edward Corbett, which teaches rhetoric more comprehensively and includes a primer on logic. The course concludes with a reading of some of the most important texts in the Western tradition, beginning with some of the most important in the American.
